Importing labels from Audacity into Praat

Howdy all! I’ve got a bunch of Audacity files (.aup3) of audio that have been segmented using the label track feature and I’d like to be able to brings those labels into Praat with the audio so I don’t have to re-segment the recording there. Does anybody know if it’s possible/how to do that?

Yes, it can be done but you may have to go through ELAN (I’m not sure if there’s a direct way of importing them to Praat but I have tested an Audacity-ELAN-Praat workflow). The question is whether you did the segmentation on the label track by using points or intervals.

If you used points, it can still be done but it’s a bit more difficult (you have to manually manipulate the label .txt file). The workaround I came up for this is a bit convoluted but it’s still doable. If you have point labels, I’d be happy to try to explain on here what we did.

If you used intervals, just try to import into ELAN and then export as a Praat Textgrid.

Let us know how it goes!

I used intervals for the audacity labels, so I was able to import into ELAN and export the Textgrid like you said. Thanks so much for the advice!
