“Farewell, Mr. Ideophone: William J. Samarin (1926-2020)”

I ran across this lovely blog post after getting distracted by a LINGTYP thread on ideophones:

It turns out that William Samarin passed away just last year. Among many other works, mostly on African languages and ideophones, Samarin wrote a classic fieldwork manual. But this post by Mark Dingemanse reveals the Samarin the person, and perhaps a bit of Samarin the Poet.
