Docling.js Thursday Workshop: A simple web lexicon

Time for some more hacking together! This month I’m going to try to start kicking the little bird that is my software library, docling.js, out of the tangled nest that is my dissertation, and into a more flight-worthy form. But I want to do so with an eye to teaching and learning — my particular approach prioritizes the idea of not just building software, but of increasing understanding of how software works and and how it works for the community. So this is less a “how to use existing software” workshop than a “let’s learn together how we could be doing web language documentation, using docling.js as a starting point.” If this all sounds rather vague don’t worry, we’ll talk about it. Put briefly, this is a grassroots approach to software in documentation. (Thanks to @ldg for suggesting that term, it’s perfect!)

In Workshop 1, we’re going to dive into the topic of creating simple web dictionaries.

The code for all the workshops will live in this repo on github:

https://github.com/amundo/docling-js-workshops

(I’ll be working on that essentially full-time this month — I don’t start my next position formally until May, so right now my job is “docling forum guy”. Send me a message via the message thingie or chat, I’m always around!)

I’ll be updating this topic with more information shortly. Looking forward to seeing everyone!

Bleh, there’s something wrong with the event plugin in this site — despite what it says in the event thing, above, the time is 1:00 PM today! Sorry for the confusion, first time I tried the event plugin.

The event thing is showing me the correct time in my time zone at least! (Assuming you mean 1:00pm EST). Looking forward to it!

My pleasure! If you guys want to do another workshop on Thursday we can. @Guillem is interested in talking about his Creating a web page with audio tags project on Mixteco at a workshop but it’s going to have to wait a couple weeks.
